The European Union, in conjunction with the Dairy Council for Northern Ireland, is funding a 3–year program to promote European dairy products in China.

EU Dairy products were successfully presented at Food Ingredients China (FIC)

This year, DCNI participated in FIC (Food Ingredients China), the largest trade food ingredients exhibition in Asia, which was held on 18th – 20th March in Shanghai successfully.

Different kinds of high–quality cream, milk powder, butter, and whey protein concentrate were on this show, provided by British companies Dale Farm and Lakeland. Participants of FIC was able to discover the rich and high quality of the dairy products from United Kingdom of Northern Ireland.

Products on show attracted a lot of buyers; they showed a strong interest in these dairy products. The high quality of the product also left a deep impression on them. These products are produced in accordance with the EU’s high quality and food safety standards, and thanks to the world’s leading traceability system, the sources of all products can be fully traced back to individual farms. Product quality and food safety standards are monitored by independent government departments, and consumers are well placed to buy UK products with confidence. At the same time, the supervision and audit mechanism of government agencies has laid a solid foundation of trust between products and consumers.

This show demonstrates the outstanding development plans implemented by European and British dairy companies, which helps domestic and worldwide dairy industry, grasp the production and development trend, set up correct strategic decisions, and provide the best service for consumers. More enterprises and consumers directly contacted with suppliers and service providers in the industry during the exhibition, bringing more business opportunities to domestic and foreign dairy products.

The United Kingdom is one of only a few countries where grass is the main source of dairy cows’ nutrition. It has high rainfall and rich soil that is ideal for the growth grass. These lush pastures provide the perfect diet for the dairy cows.

Dairy farms in the United Kingdom are family owned, passing from one generation to the next. All dairy farms are registered and milk processing plants approved by the relevant enforcement authority (the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD) and the Food Standards Agency (FSA)). Regularly, unannounced inspections are carried out on farms and processing plans to ensure all legislation is being complied with and to ensure consumers have high quality safe dairy products.

Milk used for EU dairy products is of the highest standard. The quality is regularly monitored in accordance with EU Hygiene Regulations with milk purchasers testing all farm supplies regularly. Many of the dairy farms and processing plants in the United Kingdom also belong to voluntary quality assurance schemes providing customers with the confidence that the production of milk and milk products exceed the regulatory requirements. Farms and processing plants are also subject to the supervision of the British Retail Association, on behalf of a large number of retailers. All milk and dairy products are produced to the same high quality and food safety standards, irrespective of whether they will be consumed in the United Kingdom or China.

United Kingdom dairy products are trustworthy to consumers, produced with the European Union’s highest quality standards in sustainable supply, animal health and welfare, and ecological environment, which gains ample confidence of consumers.
